Chirp is a voice-and-text budgeting app operated by Noble Partners LLC (“Chirp,” “we,” “us”). This policy describes what information Chirp collects, why, who processes it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Chirp iOS app and to chirpbudget.com.
The short version: Chirp collects the account details you sign in with and the entries you choose to keep. It never connects to your bank, never sees your card numbers, shows no ads, and does not sell or rent your information to anyone. Voice audio is processed and discarded, not stored. You can export your record to CSV, and delete your account and its data from inside the app, at any time.
The complete policy follows. Each section expands in place, and every word of it is on this page for anyone, or anything, reading the source.
1. What Chirp collects
Account information. You sign in with Apple, Google, or an email address. We receive an account identifier and your email address (Apple’s private relay address, if you use it). Email passwords are stored only as a secure hash.
The record you build. The transactions you approve (amount, merchant name, category, date, and any note you add), along with your budgets, goals, scheduled items, and settings. This is stored against your account so your record follows you to a new phone. Nothing you speak or type becomes part of your record until you approve it.
Voice audio and typed text, transiently. When you log an entry, the audio or text is sent to our server to be turned into draft transactions. Audio is processed and discarded; it is not stored on your phone or on our server. Section 5 covers this in detail.
Place names, only if you turn location on. Chirp can use nearby place names to label an entry with the right venue. This is off by default. When it is on, only place names leave your phone, never coordinates. Settings has a control that deletes the stored list.
Usage and diagnostic data. We collect product analytics and crash reports, linked to your account and approximate location. Analytics never include notes, transcripts, or precise location.
Purchase status. Whether your subscription or trial is active. Apple processes the payment; we never receive your card number or billing details.
2. What Chirp does not collect
- Chirp does not connect to your bank and has no bank-linking or account-aggregation feature. We never ask for and never hold bank credentials, balances, or statements.
- Chirp does not collect your contacts, photos, messages, or browsing history.
- Chirp does not use advertising identifiers and contains no advertising software. There are no ads.
- Chirp does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
3. How your data is used
We use your information to run Chirp and for nothing else:
- to turn what you say or type into draft transactions for your review;
- to store your record against your account and sync it between your devices;
- to maintain your subscription and trial status;
- to understand how the app is used in aggregate and to fix crashes and defects;
- to respond when you contact us for help;
- to meet legal obligations, if any apply.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use the content of your record (your transactions, notes, or transcripts) to train AI models. We may review entries to improve how Chirp reads them. When you correct how an entry was categorized, we may use aggregated, de-identified signals from corrections across many users to improve merchant recognition; those signals never include your identity or your record.
4. Third parties that process data
Chirp uses a small number of service providers to operate. Each one processes data only to provide its service to us:
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store billing, and optional on-device speech recognition. Apple’s handling of payments is governed by Apple’s own terms and privacy policy.
- Supabase: hosts our database and authentication. Your account and your record are stored here.
- Vercel: hosts the server that receives your audio or text and returns draft transactions, and hosts this website.
- OpenRouter: routes our speech-to-text and extraction requests to the AI providers below.
- Deepgram: converts voice audio into text.
- Google: Sign in with Google. Gemini converts transcript text into draft transactions, and in some cases converts audio into text.
- RevenueCat: manages subscription status. Receives purchase events from Apple and your account identifier; never your payment details.
- PostHog: product analytics, as described in section 1.
- Sentry: crash and error reporting.
If this list changes, we will update this policy before the change takes effect.
5. Voice and transcription
When you speak an entry, the audio is sent from your phone through our server to a speech-to-text provider, which returns a transcript. The transcript is then sent to an extraction model, which returns draft transactions for you to review. The audio is not stored on your phone, is not written to disk by our server, and is not retained by us after the transcript is produced. Our agreements with the providers above limit their use of the data to providing the service. On some devices, transcription happens entirely on your phone using Apple’s on-device speech recognition, in which case the audio never leaves the device.
What persists is only what you approve: the draft transactions you keep become part of your record, and the ones you toss are discarded.
6. Data retention and deletion
Your record is kept for as long as your account exists, so it can come back on your next phone. You can export any date range to CSV from Settings at any time.
You can delete your account from inside the app, in Settings. Deletion removes your account and the record stored under it from our database. You do not need to email anyone to leave. Analytics events and crash reports are retained on a rolling basis by the providers named above and are deleted on their standard schedules; residual copies in encrypted backups are purged as those backups expire.
7. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can access, export, correct, and delete your data directly in the app; that is the fastest route, and it is the same mechanism we would use on your behalf. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may also have legal rights to request access, correction, deletion, or portability of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to a data-protection authority. To exercise a right you cannot exercise in the app, contact us through the support page and we will respond within the time your local law requires.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we treat requests from all users by the same standard regardless of where they live. We do not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.
8. Children
Chirp is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change meaningfully reduces your rights or expands what we collect, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continued use of Chirp after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
10. Contact
Questions about this policy or about your data go through the support page, or by email to support@chirpbudget.com. Chirp is operated by Noble Partners LLC in the United States.
The plain-language version of all of this lives on the your-data page. Where the two differ, this policy wins.
